Gospel Assembly

20th May 2022

In our assembly this week we continue the Year of Pilgrimage. Just as the disciples in the Gospel were recognised for their love for each other, pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela journey together in solidarity. Led by the Pilgrimage Guides and with input from a modern-day pilgrims, the children are inspired to consider how they too can be recognised as true disciples of Jesus.

Key Scripture

‘By this love you have for one another, everyone will know that you are my disciples.’ John 13: 31 – 33, 34 – 35

 Children learned:

  • Jesus gives us a simple commandment to ‘love one another’
  • Solidarity and friendship in Christ is a way of following this
  • We show that we are Jesus’ disciples through our words and
  • The shell is a symbol of pilgrimage which reminds believers to focus on their journey to

Perhaps when you visit a beach this year, you can find a perfect shell to keep that can remind you of your faith in God and how you can always be close to him.

We keep all our children in our prayers always but especially those who are making their first Holy Communion this weekend at St Benet’s church. This is a very special time for them and their faith journey. May they always know God’s greatest gift.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the parents of our school community for their engagement in the parent questionnaires for our Section 48 inspection. The inspectors were blown away by the comments and the clear support you have for the schools. They said they don’t normally get such a strong response so it really meant a lot to us that you showed them how much you care too. Whilst I cannot reveal the outcome yet, until the report is published, I can say it went very well in both schools. Once I have the report I will of course share this with you.

Finally, I leave you with a prayer to Mary who we pray to especially in the month of May and ask that she guide us in our thoughts and actions. Please do not forget to send your child in with a flower or little posy next week for our procession. The dates are Monday 23rd Mary (St Benet’s) and Tuesday 24th May (St Edmund’s). If you wish to join us you are most welcome, the time is 2:30pm in both schools.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Barlow

Live Simply

Our Class 4 pupils at St Edmund’s will soon be starting a Blog on the website to support others in living in a more sustainable way; they have taken inspiration from Pope Francis’s letter Laudato Si. Cafod Club at St Benet’s are also thinking about a school project to help us care for our environment.
