Renewal Leaflet II: Autumn 2018
Monthly Holy Hour
Saturdays 10.00 – 11.00
27 October;17 November; 8 December.
(after 9.30 am Mass)
The recent Eucharistic Congress and Pilgrimage held in Liverpool recognised a need for renewal in the prayer-life of our parishes through Eucharistic Adoration – honouring the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar.
Pope St John-Paul II wrote ‘the Church comes from the Eucharist’. The celebration of Mass (with Eucharist at its centre) remains the ‘source and summit’ of our Christian life and worship. Here we give thanks for what we have received from the Life, Death and Resurrection of Jesus.
We receive Jesus in Word and Sacrament on Sunday, but our Christian witness can continue daily – whether at weekday Mass, in private prayer, group reflection or in activities like those in our parish, shown on the pages below.
We can show our gratitude for what we have received in Jesus – who is present on our altars, and our homes, our workplaces and our social events –whenever we remember him, and especially when this is shared with others.
In St Benet’s, Eucharistic adoration in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament has been available every Saturday (after 09:30 Mass) – between 9.50 and 10.20 am. – .
NOW, once a month, this time is being extended until 11 am, with readings, music and time for silent prayer, to give us a Holy Hour, ending with Benediction.
This Monthly Holy Hour gives us all an opportunity to give thanks for the gifts of Jesus and to celebrate our share in the Eucharist.
PLEASE – will you do your best to join us?
Here are just some examples of the opportunities for working together to support YOUR parish and to give thanks for all that we have received from the Life of Jesus.
Children’s Liturgy
The Children’s Liturgy Group is for our young people aged 8 years and under.
We meet on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Sundays of the month in St Benet’s Hall at 10.25 am (term-time only).
The children listen to Bible stories, join together for prayers and create their own artwork, before re-joining their parents in the church in time for the Eucharist and Holy Communion.
Children do not need to be regular members – just come along whenever suits you!
Discussion Group
The Parish Discussion Group normally meets at 6 Kingston Drive on the last Thursday of the month at 7.00 pm.
However, we shall skip the October meeting because, starting on November 8th, there will be a special series of five weekly meetings on Thursdays at the usual time, each introduced by a short film, exploring different aspects of devotion to Our Lady (a separate flyer about this will be published shortly)
St Benet’s Flower Guild
As well as providing flowers for the Sunday Liturgy week-by-week, the Guild also prepares special decorations for weddings and other events which take place in St Benet’s from time to time.
A Flower Festival is being planned for the late summer Bank Holiday Weekend next year (23rd – 26th August, 2019) – for which we are seeking local sponsorship and parish support.

Parish Pastoral Council and Annual Parish Meeting
The Annual General Meeting, normally held in October, is deferred until next year.
Guest speakers at the AGM, since its inception in 2013, have included representatives from local charities and neighbouring parishes as well as the Mayor of Beccles and heads & governors of our Catholic Primary Schools (part of St John the Baptist Multi-Academy Trust)
Parish Choir
‘The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, to be preserved and fostered with great care; liturgical worship is given a more noble form when celebrated solemnly in song’ (2nd Vatican Council).
St Benet’s Parish Choir, which has a history almost as old as our church building, nurtures and builds upon this tradition. We meet on Friday evenings in the hall at 6 pm to rehearse for Sunday Mass and special occasions. Contact:- Hilary Wells (01502 715163); email: mikeandhil@btopenworld.com
Prayer & Spirituality Group
St Benet’s Prayer and Spirituality Group meets on the second of Tuesday of the month in the Presbytery at 7.30 pm. The programme is :-
October 9th – Centering Prayer with Fr Martin
November 13th – Reconciliation – with Gabriel

The next event which we have planned is an International Supper with English, Italian and Indian dishes and live band.
This will be held in St Benet’s Hall on Saturday 20 October, at 19:00.
Tickets cost £15.
