New Year Message, 2017

We continue to celebrate the Christmas season at least until January 9 (Feast of Our Lord’s Baptism).  According to traditional church calendars, Christmas may be extended until February 2 (Feast of Candlemas, commemorating the Presentation of the Infant Jesus in the Temple, 40 days after His birth).

During this time, we continue our appeal for Mary’s Meals (see below) and we’ll also be planning our own ‘presentation’ evening of parish entertainment – for the fruits of your 2016 fundraising (well over £3000 at the latest count) to be formally donated to representatives from The May Centre and The Louise Hamilton Hospice.

Among the many other fruits of 2016 (Jubilee Year of Mercy), we are enormously grateful to those who prepared for the recent Carol Service (also decorating and cleaning the church so beautifully), offering a special witness to the Catholic faith in our part of the world – a witness that some of you are now extending onto the streets of our town.

In the coming year, we’ll be participating in the diocesan ‘Alive in Faith’ fundraising programme (of this, more anon…).

We will also be continuing the New Evangelization initiative (now in its third year). Brigid Rawlinson and Howard Trust are our leading representatives for this, but several other workers are also involved – Our Lord’s messengers often prefer to remain anonymous!

Let’s keep the fires of Faith, Hope and Love alive throughout the coming year.
